Child-Friendly Environment

Going to the dentist can be intimidating for patients of all ages, but this is especially true for children. Think of the unusual sights, sounds, and smells you notice when you step into a dentist's office. Now imagine how it might feel for kids going to the dentist for the first time!

At Tiny Texans Pediatric Dentistry, we have designed our entire office with children in mind.

From the colorful murals on the walls to the numerous play areas throughout and the cartoons playing in every exam room, we strive to make your children feel comfortable the minute they walk in.

Our staff is also trained to work especially with children. Dr. Christina Ramirez is a board-certified pediatric dentist who has received additional training beyond what is required to be a general dentist. This has given “Dr. Christina” exceptional skills in dealing with children. She herself recalls both good and bad experiences with the dentist as a child, and she wants to make sure your child has only positive ones!

Child-Friendly Communication

One of the advantages of going to a pediatric dental office is the way the dental team communicates with your child.

Dr. Christina and her team use child-friendly and age-appropriate terms to help your child through each step of his or her dental appointments. One of our goals is to keep kids calm and comfortable during their entire appointment so they will not hesitate to come back when it’s time for their next examination.

Parent-Patient Involvement

Parents are always encouraged to accompany their children to the examination room for dental appointments. Sometimes the calming presence of a parent is all a child needs to feel relaxed in the dental chair. We also invite parents to hold their child on their lap if that’s what it takes for everyone to be comfortable.

After your child’s examination, Dr. Christina will talk to you about your child’s oral health, make recommendations for teeth cleaning and x-rays depending on your child’s age, and take the time to answer any questions you might have about home care.

Private exam rooms are always used so that your family has one-on-one attention with Dr. Christina without other families watching.

Placing a Priority on the Primary Teeth

For decades, the importance of primary teeth—your child's baby teeth—was underestimated because they were going to come out anyway. But today’s modern dentist realizes these teeth are more valuable than originally considered. They act as placeholders for adult teeth, and if they are not properly cared for, complications can develop, such as:

  • Baby teeth that are lost too soon might mean adult teeth grow in out of proper alignment, resulting in the need for long-term orthodontic treatment.
  • Untreated tooth decay in baby teeth can grow and spread into the adult teeth that are still below the surface.
  • Infection in baby teeth can also spread to permanent teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

General dentists do not have the extra two to three years of training on infant- and pediatric-specific issues that a pediatric dentist has. This specialized additional training includes managing and treating a child’s developing teeth, physical growth and development, child behavior, and otherwise meeting the unique requirements of a child at the dentist. Children with special needs will also benefit from seeing a pediatric dentist.

With a pediatric dentist, even the office is set up specifically for children to keep them happy and entertained. From our comfortable and inviting waiting room to noninvasive treatment options, we take care of your child’s teeth while helping them feel at ease. Our open and communicative approach involves explaining each procedure to our young patients in terms they can understand. When your child visits our dental practice, it is our goal that they will leave wanting to return for their follow-up visit.

Dr. Christina Ramirez is a board-certified pediatric dentist offering children's dentistry services centered around each child’s comfort. We believe that pediatric dental care should be stress-free, and so we offer a welcoming, child-friendly environment with an emphasis on gentle dental care. When you need the very best for your child’s smile, let Tiny Texans be your first choice.
